Shannon + Chris {Puerto Vallarta, Mexico} 2/4/11

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was the destination Shannon and Chris decided on for their destination wedding. They put many hours into researching and planning this event to make sure it was perfect. As the photographer, I can say it sure paid off. The Riu Vallarta Resort had a very elegant yet casual feel that fit their event perfectly! Above all this wedding was FUN! This crowd sure knows how to party. For me this event was a blast. Congrats guys!

Lucas and Emma, Arista Ballroom, 1/28/11

Lucas and Emma were a photographer's dream, gorgeous, easy-going, and totally in love. They were married at the Arista Ballroom in SE, and everything about this wedding was fabulous! The Arista is such a great place to have a winter wedding. Thanks to Emma and Lucas's patience with my lighting, we were able to get some pretty dramatic images. Thanks for a fabulous night guys!!!

Arielle and Leif, Body Vox, NW Portland, 1/22/11

I didn't find out until the ceremony that Arielle and Leif have been together since they were 15 years old. I was not surprised by this, as their love for each other is so grand and so apparent. Their love definitely radiated throughout all aspects of the event, from the ceremony being dimly lit to the 2.5 hour, 7 course meal. I truly enjoyed being a part of it!

What a fun wedding to kick my year off with! Oh how I adored Erika and Scott. She wore a green wedding dress and her "something blue" was died into her hair. They had their winter wedding at the NW Cultural Center. They braved the elements and we wandered around NW for some awesome urban backgrounds. I just LOVE how the color of her dress played off of the various backgrounds. I felt so honored to be a part of their special day! I felt so connected with them, I was fighting back the tears during their ceremony. The NW Cultural Center is an awesome venue with a lot of great shooting locations nearby!! It was a fabulous night!

A winter themed wedding was Brittany's idea of a dream wedding and WOW did she ever get it. Everywhere you looked there were snowflakes.....on the centerpieces, on the guestbook table, on the bar, projected by lights on the ceiling...I can keep going. It was gorgeous! The couple also had plenty of entertainment for their friends and family, all 300 of them...a live band, a Fliptography photobooth and the best cake in town!

Congrats guys, it was a memorable night!

I really enjoyed getting to know Nicole and Shawn leading up to their wedding day; you could tell they were very much in love! The wedding day was about as perfect as it gets. We started at the beautiful Nine's Hotel and then over to Venue Pearl. After an intimate candle lit ceremony the couple and a few hundred of their closest friends and family danced the night away!

Mark and Tawny are friends of a former client so it was fun to see them again and to finally work with them on their wedding day. We were on their home turf this time...San Francisco. The ceremony was held at the beautiful St Vincent de Paul Church while their reception was held in the Julia Morgan Ballroom not far from the church. Super fun day from start to finish!

Megan and Chris were married at the beautiful Crown Ballroom in Downtown Portland on a beautiful winter night. Winter in Oregon is almost guaranteed to be cold and very wet. This night we were spared the rain and only had to deal with the extreme cold. Megan battled the cold with no coat all in the name of a great photo opportunity. What a trooper! I am so glad she was willing to do it, we had a great time. Congrats guys...I hope you are enjoying the heat in Maui.

You may notice that Paula is in every one of these shots, granted she's the bride, but she was the sort of bride that I just adore photographing. It was absolutely pouring on their wedding day, but Paula and Kyle were completely unphased. We shot their portraits downtown in the rain and at the train station. They also let me do a few night shots in the rain with their wedding party, good times! Their ceremony and reception were held at Urban Studios, an awesome downtown location! Nikki and Erich know how to have a great time! This fantastic couple were so excited to be celebrating their special day in November. A few days prior to the wedding Nikki called concerned about the heavy rain forecast for the weekend and I calmed her nerves down expressing that often our favorite photographs are taken in the most challenging situations (like rain!). As a Portland based studio we love shooting in the rain and frankly don't have much of a choice considering we live in the NW and it rains very often right?!... :) Along came Saturday and behold the most beautiful day of the week with clear skies and a very content bride! We met at the Nines Hotel for preparations before making our way to the West End Theater. After the beautiful ceremony officiated by the 'Goochie' I was lucky to pull Nikki and Erich away! We slid out the back door and managed to get creative and found a bunch of cool spots to take advantage of downtown! Nikki and Erich - thanks for sharing your special day with us and can't wait to hear all about the honeymoon :)

This was seriously one of the best weddings I've been to all year. Netta and Chris's family farm in rural Washington was a perfect setting for a mid-October wedding, and the weather couldn't have been better. They put a lot of thought into coming up with great ideas for the pictures, so we had a Harley, a tractor and a horse to make the day super fun. There were many touching moments and lots of tears as well as great laughs throughout the day, and it's so obvious that these two are crazy in love and made for each other. Beautiful. Beautiful I think is the one word that could summarize the wedding of Heidi and Marts. To begin, the wedding was held at Willamette Valley Vineyards. Next it was a bright and sunny day with the promise of a sunset one should see at least once in their lifetime. After that, the couple was one of the calmest, cool and happy couples I’ve come across in all my years of wedding photography. The wedding was not about a big to do, it was intimate and quiet and elegant and happy. There were guests from all sorts of places. Marts’ parents flew in from overseas (I think) and some of the guests also made the trek to the great Northwest. Speaking with Heidi she loved the documentarian style so I was a fly on the wall for most of the day. It’s great to observe laughter and the good time being had by all. The backdrop of their ceremony was spectacular. Right behind them was the valley with rows and rows of vineyards and the Sun peaking over the hills. After the first dance, Marts and his mother, a former dancing champion, decided to let loose and utilize their dancing genes and put on a show. By no means am I an athlete, so keeping up with them was a little bit of a task. I definitely had to catch my breath after that Mother/Son dance. It was definitely a wedding to be remembered and was “borderline” hysterical. Thanks to the family and couple for allowing me to witness their unique and special day.

I’ve said time and time again that cultural weddings are some of my favorites and this one was no exception. Being a photographer you gain certain additional skills along the way. One of them is weather radar reader. I was definitely working the Doppler all morning checking all the weather bureaus to try to plan some outdoor photos. Arriving at Quan’s parents house early that morning, the outlook was positive as there were clouds and some breaks but no rain. As the ceremonies commenced I could feel the air changing. Unfortunately, I do not have a knee or elbow or any other appendage that can tell the weather, I just know that when it goes from muggy to cool in a short amount of time, rain is on its way. After we took some formals in the beautiful backyard, as tradition dictated, we had lunch. It turns out that I had my meal with a side of downpour. We still had to take some family formals out in front of the house and it was a little tricky as I braved the rain until everyone was ready to run out and get their photo taken then run back under cover. After this adventure, we made our way to the Atrium at Montgomery Park which was where the reception was to be held. The great thing about the Atrium is that the windows allow a ton of natural light to shine through and I used every bit of it. Once again working the radar, we sprinted out the door when there was an opening only to be met with more rain. We ended up taking photos under a bridge at a park nearby but I didn’t take into account the huge drops of water from the planks up above. 5 minutes and we were out and back into the limo and back to the Atrium. I could go into more details of how much fun it was but this is a blog not a novel-og. One thing that I noticed was the demeanor of Quan and Derek. It was so cool going from table to table listening to the heartfelt thanks that the couple expressed to everyone there. Congratulations to Quan and Derek, I wish their lives filled with love and laughter because based on their wedding night, they are well on their way.

This wedding was so much fun. It was a sunny warm day with a slight breeze and plenty of excitement. The wedding and reception were to be held at the West End Theater but things were supposed to start out at the Paramount Hotel down the street. Meeting Sarah and the girls at the hotel, I snapped some awesome shots of Sarah getting ready taking full advantage of the beautiful weather outside. All of the bridal part were such characters and were up for whatever shot or situation that I wanted to put them in. We hit up a parking garage, the library, construction site and coffee house, it was fanfreakintastic. We ended up the night on the Eastbank Esplanade looking back at the city. I’m a sucker for night shots and it came out beautifully.

Maegan and Zach got married at the ALWAYS beautiful Zenith Vineyards. For all of us that live in the Portland area we knew that the weekend of 9/17-9/19 the weather was not favorable. This wedding was a true test to the "power of positive thought." Though we had dark clouds and wind, we did not have rain and the outdoor ceremony went off as planned! I am so glad it all worked out for you two...congrats!

The Chinese Gardens are absolutely beautiful normally. But add a classy wedding, with gorgeous flowers, table settings, and origami cranes everywhere, and it's over the top! Susan and Alvin were an adorable couple, who know how to throw a good party. Everything ran smoothly thanks to Misty Damico with Luxe Event Productions, she is such a wonderful coordinator and always makes sure everything looks and runs perfectly! It was a beautiful ceremony followed by a delicious 8 course meal, and a guest appearance by some amazing Chinese dragon dancers. Great wedding!

Taking place at Hood View Church, one of the things said that stood out for me during this wedding wasn’t when the girls getting ready or during the best people speeches. It was when Karen’s father gave away his daughter. When asked who would give this woman away, he said, “With honor, her mother and I do”. The words were important but it was the tone and absoluteness of his voice. Weddings sometimes become muddied with this and that, trinket here, issues there but at the base of all of this is the love between two people and the joining of their families. I could tell by the tone of his voice that Karen’s father and family fully and whole heartedly accepted Kris and his family into theirs. With the emotions shown during the ceremony, this was truly a happy and exciting event. It was a true family and friends wedding where people who were important in both their lives were directly involved in the wedding. It was such a great communal celebration. There were definitely some humorous spots during the day. Karen and her Dad arrived at the ceremony via a golf cart and that’s how Kris and his new bride exited. A practiced kiss with a dip caught everyone by surprise and was met with raucous applause. Fittingly during the reception, Karen’s brother and his girlfriend caught the bouquet and garter. Karen’s brother rallied to overcome tall odds, literally with a guy that bested him by a couple of inches. It was a great day and a fitting start to a new family. Congrats guys!

Lauryn and Danny, August 28, 2010 at Lac de' Fleur Gardens

Lac de Fleur is a gorgeous venue. It’s equipped with a lake, beautiful arches, ducks and peacocks…peacocks! Taking full advantage of summer’s last hurrah, this was the perfect setting for this couple. As I was walking with Danny to see Lauryn for the first time I asked how he was doing. He said, “I’m doing fine now but I probably won’t be in the next couple of minutes”. It was charming that he was nervous and excited at the same time. Meanwhile in the bridal suite, there were smiles all around. Taking full advantage of the room, Lauryn agreed to take some photos near the vintage bathtub and the awesome bed. After seeing each other, I can see the weight off Danny’s shoulders as his future wife brought him some much deserved ease. Posing for a couple of shots it was time to round up the troops for a blitz of photography. The cool thing about Lac de Fleur is the various terrains at the venue. We utilized the buildings and the archways, the bridges and the lake. It was almost like we were in four different places. I couldn’t leave without taking some photographs of the vintage T-Bird that Lauryn’s brother borrowed. It was fitting that these two were leaving in such a vehicle.

Courtney and Kevin celebrated their intimate weddings at the beautiful Vista Hills vineyard just outside of Portland. Most of the family and guests we're from interstate and C+K actually flew in from Florida with their children. We had so much fun working with these guys and loved the photo opportunities we had at our disposal with the sunset, rows of vines and and amazing view of rolling hills in every direction! Denise & Roger - Mt Hood B&B 8/29/10

Denise and Roger had their hands full with three kids and managed to pull of a beautiful wedding at the gorgeous Mt. Hood Bed and Breakfast in Parkdale. These guys really went above and beyond for their guests! We experienced another amazing day, this time celebrating the marriage of Tram and Shane up on the Columbia River! After already knowing the couple well from our bridal shoot these guys were really comfortable in front of the lens so we took advantage of the limited time we had (on the wedding day) and managed to capture some great moments :) We look forward to sharing the rest of these stellar images with you soon! Kristi and Chance, Tualatin Country Club, September 4th, 2010

Kristi and Chance tied the knot on the 9th hole at Tualatin Country Club. I believe this was the 1st ceremony the venue has held in that location of their property...it was a gorgeous setting with the pond and fountain as a backdrop. Kristi and Chance carefully selected all the best vendors and the outcome was a perfect wedding...at least in my opinion, I am sure they would agree too. With Chance being in the Airforce the newlyweds are off to Oklahoma where he has been stationed. Congrats guys...Oregon will miss you!!!

Sarah and Devan, The Grande Lodge! 9/4/10

Oh Sarah and Devan, just two of the most adorable, likable and happy people I've ever met! I knew after our first meeting that their wedding was going to be awesome, and I was right. Devan is really into bikes... so they had a bicycle themed wedding, the bikes were the best prop for photos! I had so much fun at the wedding (at the GORGEOUS Grand Lodge) that I was tempted to stay and dance with everyone at the end!

Pamela and Chris, 9/4/10 Surfsand Resort: "Oh yes we did!"

Weddings at the coast are always a gamble. Especially in September, but Chris and Pamela had the stars align for them because, well, because they are that good. Their wedding was at the Surfsand Resort at Cannon Beach home of the famous “Goonies” rocks or as we locals call it, Haystack Rock. It was such a glorious day with puffy clouds and sunny skies. Walking to Pamela’s room, I could hear the laughter from across the parking lot. Laughter is good, in my book. Walking in I was inundated with laughter and bridesmaids and music and quite frankly a good time was brewing. I got there a little before Pamela did but when she arrived she didn’t skip a beat. She joined in the revelry as someone passed her a wine glass almost like when a runner gets some water from one of those…you know…water people. The culmination of the planning was about to come to head and the process of a romance that started in Chicago, flourished in two states was about to celebrate it’s first milestone. The excitement of all that was resonating all over her face. Meeting with her a couple of times before, I knew she was game for anything but even I was a little surprised when she agreed to let me hang her wedding dress in the middle of the beach. After those shots I made my way to Chris’ room where expectedly the UCLA game was on, after all he and a lot of the groomsmen were proud Bruins. As calm as can be Chris and his guys got ready while I explained what I had in store for him as we were about to have him and Pamela see each other for the first time that day.

OK, back to the brides room where the dress was put on, the make-up was checked and the celebration was at full swing. The photos on the beach were incredible with the rocks in the background and the blue sky up above. Later on we took a little stroll with the couple on the beach at sunset and the sunset was..awesomely awesome. After it was all said and done, goodbyes were said and hugs were given but my excitement was still lingering as I couldn’t wait to see the images. Note to self, viewing images on laptop and driving is not conducive to a speedy return home. I wonder if they’ll make one of those Allstate “Mayhem” commercials for photographers.

Veronica & Orlando, Oregon Lavender Farm 9/4/10

Veronica and Orlando are incredibly friendly and loving people, surrounded by big families and friends who love them right back. Their wedding day was wildly fun and full of laughter, tears and bubbles (!) after the ceremony. The reception was at the Oregon Lavender Farm on a gorgeous day with blazing blue skies and fluffy clouds, which made the fields of lavender even more beautiful. There was the never ending offering of hot, delicious Mexican food, crowds of children playing in the fountains, excited dancing and plenty of champagne to go around. What a night!
